Palliative wound care requires a different mindset than traditional wound care, yet is based on the same fundamental scientific principles. Rather than an objective to "heal" a wound, the goals in palliation are to improve quality of life: reduce pain, eliminate odor, improve function. Wound healing will often occur with this approach. A palliative approach is necessary at the end of life, but often for non-terminal patients, improvement in quality of life is important even when the underlying disease process cannot be stopped. This workshop presents an approach to palliation in wound care.

The many benefits of an effective palliative wound program, including improved quality of life and achieving the goal of healing the whole person will be addressed.
